DECISIVE BATTLEFIELDS TOUR of WW1 and WW2 in EUROPE and their War Memorials - dates not yet set We are thinking of arranging a tour of some of the key WW1 and
WW2 battlesites, to include ANZAC Day at Villers Bretonneux if there is
sufficient interest shown.
Come with me and stand on these and other Battlefields of WW1 and WW2.

Following the success of our tours of the decisive battlefields of Viet Nam, we have been asked if we do similar tours to Europe. The answer is "not at the moment" but we would arrange same if there was enough interest shown. Part of the success of the Viet Nam battlefield tours has been that they are not just a visit to the battle sites or to the Long Tan Cross added into a tourist itinerary of the country. Rather, they are tours with a battlefield flavour shared by people with the same interests and concentrate on visiting the sites and museums etc, avoiding most of the "usual" tourist destinations of temples, markets, shops and cultural displays. To show you what we mean, we developed a provisional 2012 itinerary showing places to be visited, dates and even indicative prices. This flyer and itinerary are for an example only - there is not a real tour planned - it will not go or be there on the dates shown. This example Tour has been developed for both the military historian and his or her partner. We visit all the names familiar to Australians from the WW1 Western Front - the Ypres Salient, Hellfire Corner, Hill 60, the Australian Tunneleers Memorial, Polygon Wood, Paschendaele, Tyne Cot Cemetery, Menin Gate (for the Last Post Ceremony), Armentieres, Fromelles, VC Corner, Vimy Ridge, the Arras Tunnels, Beaumont Hamel, Ulster Tower, Theipval and Pozieres, where you’ll see Gibraltar, The Windmill, Mouquet Farm and the 1st and 2nd Australian Divisional Memorials. And we'll be at Villers Bretonneux for the ANZAC DAWN SERVICE (1st held here in 2008), followed by a visit to the Australian National Memorial, Victoria School, Adelaide Cemetery, and Le Hamel. But for those who want a break from the War, there are villages like Ypres, Arras, Caen, Bayeaux and more to explore. Then there's all the famous names from the Normandy landings - Juno, Sword, Gold, Omaha... - and several French towns and villages to explore - Bayeaux, Caen and St Mer Eglise. And you'll see Pegasus Bridge. Not to forget that the Tour starts with four nights in London and ends with four nights in Paris. No end of things for her to do if she doesn't want to join him in seeing the military and other sights listed in the itinerary for those two wonderful cities. Above is the sample Flyer - one A4 page - click on the image to download. Just happens to be very suitable for printing out and discussing with friends or club-mates to help us get the word out (please). From the start of the Tour in London to the end in Paris we would be in the capable and very experienced hands of Bartlett's Battlefield Journeys - the leader in the field, so we can be guaranteed the best touring guide available. They know what the Aussies want to see and are very knowledgeable about our WW1 experiences. An added benefit of their experience is that anyone booking onto the Tour may wish to visit the resting place of a relative or friend or the site of a particular engagement. If you advise us when we arrange a Tour, every effort will be made to include these requests into the Tour, with the understandable reservations of locations and numbers of requests, of course. Any such Tour needs to be booked well in advance due to the popularity of these destinations - particularly around ANZAC Day - so accommodation needs to be booked well before the ANZAC Day of the year BEFORE the one in question. A holding deposit of $1000 p/p would also be required to secure the accommodation and flights. Please click on the photograph to download a 2012 sample 8-page Word document which includes a comprehensive itinerary, booking form and details of where to get even more information or to make your booking. But it's a SAMPLE only - please don't try to book on the 2012 Tour! Based on then-current exchange rates, this would be an affordable Tour (good quality hotels and guides, most meals and entry fees etc) and would stand any comparisons. Why not try to travel with others you know - make a small group... or a large one, for that matter. If there's any interest in such a Tour in the future, please Contact Us and let's talk... but remember, it needs to be arranged AT LEAST 18 months in advance in order to secure accommodation near the battle sites. With interest building for the 100th anniversaries of various WW1 battles through 2014, 15, 16, 17 and 18, and the 70th anniversaries of the post D-Day Europe battle, it's time to be planning NOW. So get together with your mates and think about going. And please Contact Us when you decide to go. |
